Your Experience at Sage
Anita Brickle, Certificate IV in Massage Therapy Practice
and Diploma of Remedial Massage
Want to know what studying massage at Sage is like? Read about the experience that Anita Brickle had, one of our former students. The words are Anita’s but the experience has been shared by thousands of our graduates…
“How do I get involved? How much is it going to cost? What courses do you offer? What qualifications do I come out with? Can I work while studying? What is duration of the course? These are all just some of the questions students ask when getting started in the massage industry.
All these questions can be answered by the professional and helpful team at the Sage Institute of Massage. The career advisors have all the knowledge and experience of the massage industry to help choose the best course option for each individual. They offer part-time course options so you can work while studying or you can choose the full-time option, which runs from Monday – Thursday 9.00am – 4.00 pm. Getting started is easy and you may be eligible for government funding. All you need to do is simply fill out a form to apply.
I chose to study the full-time course option starting with the Certificate IV in Massage Therapy Practice. The course is very detailed and broadens your horizons very quickly. The day is broken down into theory training in the morning and practical sessions in the afternoon. You very quickly go from not knowing anything about massage, to gaining knowledge about bones, muscles and how the body works and learning new techniques of massage treatment.
Throughout the Certificate IV course, we were trained with a relaxation style of treatment, trigger point release techniques, sports massage techniques and stretching. We also learnt a lot about different personality types and how to engage different clients, which I think is very relevant in this industry. The Certificate IV gave me a taste of the massage industry which lead me to enrolling in the Diploma of Remedial Massage. I wanted to gain more knowledge and experience to gain a higher qualification as it opens up more job opportunities for me.
I thoroughly enjoyed the remedial massage course as I have strong interest in the sporting field and want to work with elite athletes in the future. A few of us were selected to work with the New Zealand Rugby team on two occasions, which was a fantastic opportunity that we thoroughly enjoyed, and was a great learning experience.
Sage’s student massage clinic is an excellent way for students to put all their skills together and treat people from the public in a real-life environment. We have 32 clients to treat before graduating with our Certificate or Diploma. This is a great way to give the the students confidence in a supervised environment.
The team in the office are always looking for new ways to improve the school to benefit the students. They look for different areas to give the students experience. When sporting events are on in Melbourne like triathlons and running events, Sage provides the opportunity for students to treat clients with pre- and post-event massage in a fun, professional environment.
The trainers are very helpful and professional in their manner of teaching. If you have any questions or are struggling with the course content, they are always willing to help you understand and succeed.
There is a notice board in the tea room that constantly has job opportunities in the massage industry posted up for students to apply for. The office team are always striving to help students find work during and after your course completion. I managed to secure a Remedial Therapist position only 3 weeks after my course ending from one of the positions advertised on the notice board!
Overall I thoroughly enjoyed studying at Sage and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to get started in the industry.”
