Variety Children’s Christmas Party – A Festive Event For Some Very Special Kids

The Variety Children’s Christmas Party has become an annual fixture on the list of Melbourne’s best Christmas charity events and celebrated its 28th year on Thursday 11 December at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. Over 135,000 disadvantaged or special needs children have attended the event over the years and 2014 was even bigger and better than ever before.

Variety relies on the generosity of sponsors and volunteers to make the free event happen, as it doesn’t receive government funding.  Every child receives a lolly bag and more importantly, a Christmas party that allows the kids and their carers to get away from the stresses and strains of everyday life and enjoy unconditional acceptance while surrounded by family and friends.

Sage Institute of Education staff members generously volunteered their time to be on hand, do some heavy lifting, organise presents, dress up in costume and make this Christmas celebration a party to remember for all these extra special children.

With over 5,000 kids and 3,000 carers attending the event last week, you could have carved up the excitement and sold it in bottles! Live entertainment, activities, carnival rides and interactive displays were all big hitters on the scream-a-tron but who else, only Santa himself, really brought the house down with a guest appearance straight from the North Pole.

We are so proud of our Sage staff for playing their part in this great festive event and we’ll be back again next year for more fun and festivities!

Sage Institute of Education – it’s more than a job, it’s a rewarding career.
